Seventh-annual Utah Orthopaedics Huntsville Marathon Slated for September 15, 2018: Registration prices jump April 1

The town of Huntsville will host its seventh-annual “Utah Orthopaedics Huntsville Marathon” Saturday, September 15, 2018.  Registration is now open and the marathon committee is soliciting volunteers to put on this world-class event.

Huntsville Marathon

Billed as “The Full Monte,” the 26.2 mile USA Track and Field (USATF) certified and sanctioned course begins near the top of scenic Monte Cristo and descends nearly 4,000 feet, ending in Huntsville’s historic park. With the long, gentle, almost continuous descent for the first 21 miles, many are running in hopes of qualifying for the iconic Boston Marathon.

Win a Trip to Boston Marathon 2019

Qualify for the Boston Marathon and you will be automatically entered to win a trip for two to the 2019 Boston Marathon.  The prize package includes airfare for two and a two-night stay at the historic Marriott Boston Copley Place Hotel in the heart of Beantown.

Boston Qualification Guarantee

Huntsville Marathon offers an unprecedented Boston Qualification Guarantee. We believe in the quality and speed of our course so much that we will pay for your marathon entry if you fail to qualify for Boston. This guarantee is for those who have never ran Boston, and for those who have ran within ten minutes of qualifying for Boston on a previous race within the last two years.  In 2016, 25% of our runners qualified for Boston.

Earlier Start Time

Since cooler fall temperatures are common during late September on our mountain course, the start times were a bit later to allow runners who live along the Wasatch Front to leave their homes on race morning at a reasonable time versus a 3:00 a.m. wake up. However, many asked for an earlier start time and the Huntsville Marathon Committee responded by starting all of the races earlier. In fact, the Full Marathon now starts at 8:00 a.m., which is a full two hours earlier than the first marathon in 2012.

Cash Prizes

Cash prizes are once again being offered this year, with the overall male and female winners of the full marathon receiving $1000 each, while the winners of the half will receive $500. The Huntsville Marathon is also offering a $4000 bonus to any first-place full marathon runner beating the fastest recorded time in Utah for their gender. The current men’s record is 2:15:14, and the women’s is 2:30:07, both from the 2005 Salt Lake City Marathon.

Once again, there will be a 10k and 5k, as well as a Children’s Fun Run. The Children’s Fun Run is for kids age eight and under, and will be free of charge. It includes a T-shirt for the first 200 kids who sign up.

Marathon Supports Ogden Valley Organizations

The Huntsville Marathon is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and has donated nearly $350,000 to Ogden Valley organizations. Donations have benefitted Huntsville Town, Eden and Liberty Park, CERT, Valley Elementary, Snowcrest Jr. High, Weber County Sheriff and Weber Fire Distrit auxiliaries, Weber Pathways, and many more local beneficiaries. This donor aspect is particularly important as there are only a small handful of events, from the many held in Ogden Valley, that give back directly to the community, and the all-volunteer Huntsville Marathon gives back in a huge way.
